Djokovic 'survives' Fritz but admits fitness concerns for Alcaraz semifinal at 2025 US Open

Four Grand Slams, four semifinals for Novak Djokovic. The Serb has now accomplished that calendar-year feat a record seven times, but injury issues have prevented him from going any further this season in pursuit of a record-extending 25th Grand Slam men's singles title.

The 2025 US Open schedule could lend the 38-year-old a lifeline in his fight with Father Time. After his four-set win against Taylor Fritz on Tuesday night, Djokovic will have two full days off before taking on Carlos Alcaraz in Friday's semifinals.

"I don't feel very fresh at the moment, but hopefully in two days it will be different," the Serb said, noting that extra day off.

After a three-hour, 24-minute battle with Fritz in Arthur Ashe Stadium, how does Djokovic view the road ahead in New York—one that may well go through Alcaraz and Sinner?

"It's not going to get easier, I tell you that," he said with a smile. "I'm going to try to take one day at a time, really take care of my body, try to relax and recover. The next couple of days is really key for me to really get my body in shape and ready to battle five sets if it's needed.

"I just would really love that, would love to be fit enough to play—and to play potentially five sets with Carlos. I know that my best tennis is going to be required, but I'd rise to the occasion."
