MIAMI GARDENS, FL — Childhood friends will be pitted against one another when Louisville football and Miami play tonight.

Louisville defensive linemen Wesley Bailey and Rene Konga and Miami defensive lineman Akheem Mesidor are all natives of Ottawa, Canada, and played at Clearwater Academy in Florida together. The three met during their early teen years and trained at Gridiron Academy before coming to America.

"That (Mesidor) was one of his best friends," Gridiron Academy owner Victor Tedondo told The Courier Journal, speaking of Bailey. "... Wesley will also tell you the person who actually taught him to play D-line was Akheem Mesidor."

Bailey and Konga also know Canes linebacker Mohamed Toure after the three played together at Rutgers. Konga left first, coming to Louisville in 2023, while Bailey and Toure left for Louisville and Miami, respectively, after the 2024 season.

Friendships and familiarity will be put to the side tonight as Louisville looks to get its first top-five win in nearly a decade while Miami will try to stay undefeated and avenge its 2023 home loss to the Cardinals.

Chris Bell again took a short pass from Miller Moss for a big gain, this time a 36 yard touchdown to put the Cards up two scores.

The Cards again force the Canes to settle for a field goal on a promising drive into the red zone thanks in part to a false start penalty on third and short. Carter Davis made good on a 41-yard kick.

The Cardinals open the second half with a 48-yard field goal from Cooper Ranvier.

Miami had to settle for a Carter Davis 27-yard field goal despite having first and goal at the Louisville 9.

The Canes answered quickly thanks to consecutive completions of more than 30 yards by Carson Beck. Mark Fletcher Jr capped off the scoring drive with a 2-yard touchdown run.

Chris Bell took a 3-yard pass from Miller Moss and ran 32 yards untouched for a score, shocking the Hard Rock Stadium of Miami fans and giving the Cards their second touchdown on as many possessions.

Miller Moss scores a on the 1-yard quarterback keeper to get the Cardinals on the board first. U of L's drive included David Chapeau's 3-yard run on a field goal fake to set up Moss' touchdown.

Louisville's Keyjuan Brown, Rodney Johnson are available against Miami

The Cardinals' running back Keyjuan Brown and cornerback Rodney Johnson are active ahead of the squad's ACC game against Miami, according to the gameday injury report. Defensive lineman Micah Carter has been ruled a gametime decision.
